Sites and your login page
Venues, connection types, and customising what customers see.
Sites
A site is one venue. Each has its own packages, routers and login page design, so a hotel and a café under one account can sell differently and look different.
| Setting | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Name | How the site appears to you and on its login page |
| Connection type | How much time logins are allowed — see below |
| Keepalive timeout | Optional. How long a device can stop answering — out of range, Wi-Fi off — before its login ends. Applies to every package at the site; the router's default is 2 minutes |
| Timezone | Reports and expiry times, e.g. Africa/Accra |
| Portal theme | Override your account's theme for this site only |
Connection type matters
On satellite and mobile links, data takes longer to travel and arrives unevenly. MikroTik's default is to give up on a login after 0.3 seconds, which fails on these links even when nothing is wrong. Oculus sets a longer limit to match the connection you choose:
| Connection type | Login time limit |
|---|---|
| Fibre, DSL, fixed wireless | 1 second |
| Cellular (LTE/5G) | 3 seconds |
| Starlink / low-orbit satellite | 5 seconds |
| VSAT / geostationary satellite | 8 seconds |
If customers at a site fail to log in for no visible reason, check this first.
Deactivating a site
Deactivate keeps the site's vouchers and history, stops it counting toward your plan, and leaves anyone currently online connected.
Your login page
Your login page is hosted by Oculus at your own address. The router only holds a small page that forwards customers there, so changes apply at every site immediately — there's nothing to upload to routers.
Customise it under Settings → Login pages → Edit login page. A live preview beside the form shows the page exactly as customers will see it — with your real packages — and updates as you type, so you can try themes before saving.
- Theme — eight to choose from. Six are dark; Daylight and Sand are light, which reads better on a phone outdoors in bright sun.
- Logo — a PNG, JPEG or WebP image up to 256 KB. It appears above your headline and as the page's icon. A square image works best.
- Headline — e.g. "Welcome to Lakeside Lodge".
- Message — a line of instructions or a welcome.
- Support contact — a phone number or email for customers who get stuck.
Buttons in the preview never charge or connect anyone.
The page shows the packages you've marked Show on the captive portal.
What customers see
- They join your Wi-Fi and the login page opens on its own.
- They choose a package, or type in a voucher code.
- If you've connected more than one payment gateway, they choose how to pay — for example mobile money or card.
- They can add an email address for their receipt. It's optional.
- Your gateway's payment page opens inside the same login window — they don't need internet access to pay.
- When payment succeeds, they're online at the speed they bought, and sent on to the page they were trying to open.
The login page is built to work inside the small browser windows phones open for Wi-Fi logins, with no outside images or fonts to wait for.
