Packages
What you sell — price, speed, data, validity and devices.
A package is one thing a customer can buy. Each belongs to a site, so different venues can sell different things.
Creating a package
Packages → Add package.
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Site | Which venue sells it |
| Name | What customers see, e.g. "Day Pass" |
| Description | A short line on the login page, e.g. "24 hours, 5 GB" |
| Price and currency | Usually GHS. Must match your payment gateway's currency |
| Download / upload speed | In Mbps or kbps — pick the unit beside each. Set both, or leave both empty for no speed limit |
| Data cap | In GB or MB — pick the unit beside it. Leave empty for unlimited data |
| Validity | How long the package lasts, in hours or days |
| Validity starts | On first login or At purchase — see below |
| Session limit | Optional. How long one login lasts before the device has to log in again. Leave empty for no limit — most venues should |
| Idle timeout | Optional. Ends a login after this many minutes with no traffic. The voucher keeps working; the customer logs in again when they're back |
| Devices | How many phones or laptops can use it at the same time |
| Show on the captive portal | Switch off to sell it only as printed vouchers |
When validity starts
- On first login — the clock starts when the customer first connects. Use this for printed vouchers, which may sit in a drawer for weeks before they're sold.
- At purchase — the clock starts at payment, whether or not they connect.
Devices
A package for 3 devices lets three devices be online at the same time with one code. A fourth is refused until one of the others disconnects. Reconnecting the same device never counts twice.
Data caps
The cap counts everything the customer uses, across all sessions, until the package expires. When it runs out, the router disconnects them; they can buy again straight away.
Changing and retiring packages
Edit changes the package for future sales. Vouchers already sold keep the limits they were sold with.
Retire removes it from the login page. Vouchers already sold keep working until they expire.
Suggested starting packages
| Name | Speed | Data | Validity | Devices |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 Hour | 5 Mbps | — | 1 hour | 1 |
| Day Pass | 10 Mbps | 5 GB | 24 hours | 2 |
| Week Pass | 20 Mbps | 25 GB | 7 days | 3 |
On a satellite link, keep caps lower and speeds modest — your own bandwidth is the limit everyone shares.
